There are moments in life that I have found to be more burdensome than joyful. It's so sad to say but this world has not changed for the better. There is so much that is going on that one could find themselves on their knees praying 24/7 with no break and still nothing would have changed in this world. Nightly news broadcast death, troubles, and the worlds condition, and not everything gets its headline on nightly television. We know of someone be it friend, family or a close distant relative who is fighting for their life or may have passed on. We find ourselves being bombarded with images of death, espionage, deceit, unforgiveness, adultery, questionable language and more on our favorite evening shows.
Have we compromised our beliefs and faith and especially our morals? Don’t get me wrong, I sometimes enjoy a good mystery and even a murder mystery, but I have had to draw myself away from my T.V. time for this one reason – it made me sick to my stomach. And I do mean literately, I had allowed so much trash in my spirit that I became physically sick. One day every show that I watched was inundated with murder, death, lies, and hatred, I couldn’t take it any longer so I just turned off the television and turned to God.
I needed a refreshing and cleaning inside, I needed to put something better in my mind and ear and I needed to get these images out of my head, so I prayed and asked for forgiveness for giving God my last minute left over time. You see, I did not realize that this was just a ploy of the enemy – Satan to get my mind more focused on other things so that I didn’t give the right amount of time to God and His Word. We all get trap in this kind of deception more than we think, it could be work related, church related, family related, or volunteer related just so that our focus is askew for a moment. Whatever takes our attention away from studying the Word or praying in our secret place takes us from our strength.
God’s Word is powerful and it is truth, He says in 2 Timothy 2:15 “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” this is where we get the strength to wield our sword against the enemy. Because when he comes in like a flood do you know that the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him (Isa. 59:19). If you didn’t read His Word then you didn’t know this is a promise of God to His children. Satan has never conceded to leave us alone, his purpose is to draw us away from God, from His Word and from prayer by any means necessary. It is a choice that we must make daily in seeking God, even if it means getting up an hour, or forty-five minutes earlier to spend some time in prayer or reading before the day starts.
When we pray we get power. I don’t mean superman kind of power, but a power to stand face to face against all obstacles, hindrances, and delays of God’s help. Prayer is the greatest of all forces because it honors God and brings Him to our aid, prayer is the easiest and hardest of all things. It is also the simplest and the most inspiring, the weakest and the most powerful (E.M.Bounds). We see the results when things happen that is beyond our human capabilities and then we know that God has heard our prayers and answered. Prayer is our most formidable weapon against all principalities, powers, and rulers of the darkness and spiritual wickedness in high places. Prayer is calling on the Almighty to intervene in our situations, in our sickness, in our weaknesses and in our life. Christ gain wisdom and power in His ministry from the Father, “…the Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise” (John 5:19). Christ stayed praying to the Father, He always found a quiet place to go to gather strength, wisdom and ability to do what God has called Him to do.
Can we have success without much praying? I think not. Prayer is a life line to “ELOHIM” our creator, it is where we can yield to Him our secrets, our thoughts, and our burdens. Know this, the more we go to Him in prayer, our lives will begin to change from that oh-so busy person that we use to be to one who desires to run into His presence for a refilling of His love. And even when we don’t get things right that day, or we become overwhelm with trash T.V. we can still come into His presence and His love will enfold us and comfort us.
Spend some time with God in prayer, do what you can to get away from trash T.V. and open the Word to seek the promises of God and to use His Word when wielding your sword against the onslaught of the enemy. May God bless you as you get to know Him more each day.
