Jesus is our greatest example on teaching us about prayer, throughout the Gospels you can see that the key was to get to a solitary place with God. "And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone" (Mt.14:23). This solitary place was also seen in the movie "The War Room", this encourage many saints to find that solitary spot in their home, maybe their car, or while walking. Quiet times with God forms a special bond as we move from glory to glory; as long as you get alone with God He will meet you where you are.
The movie even challenged me to find that place and like many I moved things around and found a cozy spot in my closet. But a funny thing happened as I was setting up my private place, I found myself talking to God wherever I am. While sitting on the sofa, in the kitchen, even in the shower, while riding in the car, or sitting outside and even when I be studying His Word. I find that there is a constant conversation going on in my head and my heart, but most of all, I love it when the Holy Spirit stirs my spirit, it feels just as Jeremiah said "...fire shut up in my bones..." (Jer. 20:9) when He touches me I stop where I am and pray.
Prayer is our own private line to the throne room of God, our prayers are going before Him as incense in "...golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints" (Rev 5:8). Prayer is where we get to cast and leave all our worries and concerns, prayer is where we get power to deal with daily issues, prayer is also where our faith grows. Prayer is where we go when all around us is nothing but chaos and acceptance of wrong, when we are distress, sick, angry, or in need we pray. There are many reasons why we should go to God in prayer and I 'm sure this list can grow immensely. Nevertheless, we must choose to go to God, not to the phone, not to our BFF, not to family, only to God; let Him direct you.
Since I have been looking into prayer I have found may books on the subject, but none that have kindled a fire in me like E. M. Bounds, R.A Tory, D. L. Moody, George Muller and so many more who wrote, live and breathed prayer, and God's Word. Now there have been some others that I have found to be quite enlightening and encouraging. I would suggest a bit of Unction in choosing other books, but the ones listed above should be in the library of all saints.
My summer reading this year is “E.M. Bounds on Prayer”, and if you choose to, feel free to join me in the reading and send me your comments, insight, how God is changing your heart towards prayer or whatever you would like to comment on. My prayer is that you will allow God to direct your steps and your heart in prayer, for there is an unexplainable joy when we go to God in prayer….
