As I said before Prayer is power and all power belongs unto God (Ps.62:11).
But it is the Holy Spirit who imparts to us the power that belongs to God and it is also the Holy Spirit’s work in the believer to take what belongs to God and make it ours. And all the manifold power of God belongs to the children of God as their birthright in Christ (R.A. Torrey). Now if that don’t get you shouting hallelujah I don’t know what will.
The Holy Spirit is our power source and it is our prayers that plugs us into this power source. Prayer also connects us to God and His power source for us to use for any situation. Our birthright, is an inheritance given to us because of Jesus Christ, and since we have been adopted as sons and daughters we are now part of the family. You see it is our inheritance in Christ that the things that belongs to us comes to us through the Holy Spirit who is now living in us since salvation. “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?” (1 Cor. 3:16). Even our words are just words if the Spirit does not give them life for “it is the Spirit that quickeneth (gives life); the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit and they are life” (Jn. 6:63). As you speak or confess the Word over your life or situation you are therefore, speaking life.
Here is another task of the Holy Spirit, as if you didn’t already know, is He prays for us when we don’t or can’t find the right words; “likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities (weaknesses): for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groaning’s which cannot be uttered” (Rom. 8:26).
There is no greater power that is available to us than the power of the Holy Spirit, He was promised to us in Acts 1:8 “But you shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you…” so, are you utilizing this amazing power? Are you calling upon Him to help you in your prayer life? Are you seeking Him to take you deeper into the word of God? He has so much to teach us, but countless children of God are not living or tapping into this power that is within us. Many are walking defeated paths, and living powerless lives, all because that have yet to learn about the Holy Spirit. This doesn’t mean that they don’t have Christ, it just means that they are not being fed properly, they haven’t picked up their Bible to see what doth the Lord says.
Looking at Matthew 13:18-23, Christ gives us a parable of the seed and the sower, and I can say that I have fallen into more than one of these categories. For instance, the seed by the way side are those who hear the word but still do not understand it completely and that’s when the devil comes and take away that which was sown in the heart. We need to ask “…O Lord give me understanding according to thy word” (Ps. 119:169) and “…Faith cometh by hearing and hear by the Word of God” (Rom. 10:17). If we don’t take heed to what we hear and act upon it, we are defenseless with the enemy comes to steal that which was planted.
Then there are seeds that are sown in stony places, when one hears the word it is received with great joy but yet he hath not root in himself for when tribulation or persecution come because of the word they backslide back into their old ways and they deny the Word of truth. We need to study the Word of God daily, night and day just as God instructed Joshua, for this is where our faith begins to blossom, this is where we build ourselves up so that we can become strengthen in our weaknesses, in our doubts and in our fears, no matter what comes our way.
He that received seed among the thorns…, are those who have heard and received the word, but the cares of the world have overpowered the Word of God. They have taken their eyes off of the promises, and are now looking at their bills, house payments, getting that promotion, how to make more money and such. The cares of the world have choked out what God had said, in other words their focus has changed and they no longer are walking by faith. As the Lord showed David how to fight the enemy, He can and will show us how to do the same. We must depend upon Him, we must know that He is our power source and that He is our strength. Don’t let the world destroy what God has placed in you and what He is doing for you.
Finally, the seed that was sown on good soil is he that hearth the word, and understandeth it and bear much fruit. When we give time to God in reading, studying and praying we become strengthen, successful, and fruitful, because we trust Him, we know that He will not leave us in trying situations, and when the storms are blowing in our lives He is the rock that we can stand upon and hold on to. And we can trust that He will supply all our needs according to His riches in glory. There is no doubting His Word nor His love for us, for we have been given the precious Holy Spirit to help us become what God has chosen us to be. We are learning to “walk by faith and not by sight” (2 Cor. 5:7).
You see God wants and deserves our full attention, He does not want us to be encumbered with the cares of this world, nor to be fearful or doubtful when trials come, but to trust in Him to lead us and to direct us in the way. His Holy Spirit is in every born again believer, to teach us, to empower us to pray, to give us understand of His word as well as bring us into His presence. He increases our faith as we seek Him daily. He teaches us to pray with power, to move mountains, and to be guided into all truth. As long as we remain in Christ, not one of God’s children can ever be defeated, “…for we are more than conquerors through Him that loves us” (Rom. 8:37).
